Hi, I’m DJ!
My name is DJ and I have been working professionally as a mental health counselor for the last 13 years. I am passionate about helping young people learn more about themselves and working collaboratively towards their personal goals. My own interest in mental health and psychology first arose from my experiences as a client when I was a teen, so I am particularly sensitive to the needs and challenges of adolescents struggling with mental health concerns. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me!
The Professional Stuff
I have a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rollins College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Flagler College. The clinical approaches I most often utilize are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Theory, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Existential Theory.
During my student internship placement at a charter high school, I provided supportive counseling services to students who experienced adversity in a traditional school setting. In addition to my background in working with youth and families, I also hold specific experience and training in the treatment of substance abuse disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders, gained through many years of working with clients and their loved ones in residential substance abuse rehabilitation settings. Prior to joining the Transform Youth & Family Counseling team, I worked in a small outpatient practice focused on general mental health concerns, where I served as Clinical Director from 2022 - 2024.
The Personal Stuff
I recently relocated from Florida to Oregon, along with my family, after about 20 years of residence there. I am excited to be in a new environment where I can appreciate the gentler climate, natural scenery, slower pace, and like-minded people! As I spent my childhood and adolescence in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, I already feel very comfortable and at home here. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and pets, playing video games or tabletop games, listening to music, and exercising.
